Addenbrooke Classical Academy
Addenbrooke Classical Academy was transformed from a 68,000-sf call center into a welcoming 55,000-sf K-12 school with abundant daylighting, new chemistry labs, an arts studio, music rooms, choir rooms, a gymnasium, an auditorium, a playground, an administration space, and 39 classrooms. The HITT team had to be creative in reusing existing building elements to complete this project within Addenbrooke’s budget constraints. The design and construction team overcame new 2015 building code requirements for energy efficiency, to include new LED lighting throughout all classrooms to lower operating costs without having to raise additional funds. The team did a complete inventory of existing building elements including millwork, doors, flooring, ceiling, and security systems; they then performed extensive budgeting during design to maintain an extremely tight budget by re-purposing and re-using multiple elements of typical office construction and integrating them into a school program.
