Employee Spotlight: Mike McCaffrey

Vice President of Safety

Mike McCaffrey recently joined HITT as our Vice President of Safety. Before coming on board, he served as Vice President and Corporate Director of Safety for a leading general contractor in the Washington metropolitan area.

Mike strives to make sure each and every team member returns home safely at the end of the work day. With more than five thousand people to account for on all of our jobs, that can be a tall order.

“Everyone has the right to a safe place to work, and I want to ensure we provide that,” said McCaffrey. “Construction, by nature, is a demanding industry when it comes to safety. I’m confident that we can meet the challenge of further advancing our safety program.”

Mike’s goal for his team of safety superintendents is not to act as enforcers, but rather to build relationships with their colleagues, and educate and engage them to keep everyone safe. He strives to have all team members see the Safety department as a meaningful resource—not just in times of crisis, but anytime there is a learning opportunity.

“Safety requires buy-in at all levels,” continued McCaffrey. “Each of us has a role to play in protecting ourselves and our team members. By taking time to help someone understand that now, we can avoid future incidents.”

Outside of the office, Mike’s wife and children are his top priorities. Together they enjoy traveling and getting out on the C&O Canal and other local trails for bike rides.

In addition to spending time with his family, Mike is on a mission to visit all of major league baseball’s ball parks. He and his college friends have made it to 16 so far and have another 14 more to see.
